The Extensible Hypertext Markup Language, or XHTML, is a markup language that has the same depth of expression as HTML, but also conforms to XML syntax.

Every webpage is made with HTML but after 2001 the W3C which the community that determine the standard for the web decided to discontinue HTML and replaced with XHTML, it maybe sound scary but it's not a big deal, XHTML which is for Extensible Hypertext Markup Language is almost identical to HTML the most deference between them is just their syntaxes basically XHTML places strict rules on the way its code is written, with ultimate goal to make WebPages more compatible with deferent browsers and devices, you can essentially think of XHTML as a clean version of HTML but that is not mean that you can not use HTML in your WebPages, absolutely not.
